Is your Ipad stuck on the red battery charging or silver Apple logo screen?

So there is a downside to reading on the Ipad.

For those who just want the how to see the bottom of the page.

For a quick catch up here are the good bits:

I find the Ipad easy to carry around. It’s also easy to see the screen in the dark. I am able to hit the internet quick if one of my servers email a problem. Last but not least the next book is right there to start, no getting up. I get lazy sometimes I’m human.

Now for the headache:

 

I have a very busy schedule like everybody else. Sometimes I am unable to read for a week. I left my Ipad charged on my desk for about a week. I had used it every day up until this point. I finally had some free time one evening, I  picked up my Ipad turned it on, got the usual silver Apple logo on boot then wait for it… wait for it.. wait for it.. Nothing. After a few more unsuccessful attempts, my first thought was to throw it against the wall.  If the Ipad was cheaper this may have happened.  Then my brain kicked in, what are my options.  Hard reset, ok done. I pressed the power button at the same time as the circle button at the bottom held both my breath and the buttons for ten seconds, the screen flashed to blank then back to the silver apple logo.  After a couple more seconds the Red battery flashing need charge shows up. I let my breath let out. What is going on? I had fully charged the Ipad when I left it on my desk.  I though ok Maybe my son tried to use it  nope password protected, only I know it.  Ok fine I plug in the charger for 30 min go for the hard reset again and nothing same flashing charge me please icon.

Well there is always DFU mode. DFU mode is to update firmware on an apple device like Ipod, ipad, iphone, hence the letters DFU “Device Firmware Update”.  So I go to DFU mode then back nothing still. You can place your device in DFU mode by holding in both the power button up top and the circle button down  below the screen, after ten seconds release the circle button and continue holding the power button till the screen turns off. You ware now in DFU mode. To test press the cirle while the screen is black nothing should happen it shoulc stay on the black screen.

DFU mode did not work so I tested the cord that came with my ipod touch it charged my ipod and connects to Itunes without issue. I figure cant hurt, so I swapped my Ipod touch cableand connected it to my Ipad then charged the Ipad for 30 min once again.  I’m thinking I am now an hour into this, it better work. I disconnect my Ipod charger cable from my Ipad then I drop the Ipad back into to DFU mode.  Once again the Ipad screen turned black. Next  I connected the usb Ipod cable to my laptop and my Ipad. This time Itunes picked it up and told me it found an Ipad in recovery mode.  I smiled, but wait… do I have a valid backup of my books on the laptop to restore from?

Yes I did.
After restoring the Ipad settings and content from my laptop, I had not only all my books back in my neat little categories, I also had my bookmarked page where I left off.

In the end I got to finish the book I was reading and had a great night!

 

Fixes these items on your Ipad:

• Device continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
• An update or restore did not complete and the device is no longer recognized in iTunes.
• Stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.

Here’s what you’ll need to do to get your Ipad into DFU mode:

• Plug the iPad into your computer
• Launch iTunes
• Hold down the Power button and the Home button at the same time
• Keep holding both of these buttons for 10 seconds
• After 10 seconds pass, release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button for another 3-5 seconds
• When in DFU mode, your iPad screen will stay completely black. If you see an Apple logo or otherwise you did not enter DFU mode
• iTunes will notify you that it has detected a device in recovery mode
• Once in DFU mode the Itunes firmware modifying app will take over, follow those instructions
